WVA Welcomes New Policy Officer, Dr Athanasios Angelou
The WVA is proud to announce the onboarding of our new Veterinary Policy Officer, Dr Athanasios Angelou
Dr Angelou obtained the diploma of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 2015 and soon after he started his doctoral research on the field of parasitology. He was also enrolled in the MSc program of the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp and the University of Pretoria in South Africa due to his passion for public health and the holistic approach of One Health. During his doctoral research, he was in charge of a wide number of research projects closely related to veterinary parasitology, epidemiology and public health and was involved in 5 different COST-Actions where he had the opportunity to collaborate and work in a plethora of laboratories and Institutes all across Europe. In 2021, Dr Angelou completed a one-year traineeship program at the European Commission, Directorate of Health, Unit of Animal Health. As the Veterinary Policy Officer, Dr Angelou will be responsible for driving forward the policy initiatives of the Association in addition to expanding the capacity of the WVA Secretariat. Apart from veterinary science, Dr Angelou is interested in photography, theatre, foreign languages, sailing and swimming.
