The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia is the only institution of higher learning in Malaysia that offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in veterinary sciences.

Vision
To become an excellent faculty and referral centre in veterinary science in Asia Pacific.

Mission
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine strives toward excellence in teaching, research and professional services to expand knowledge in veterinary science for the enhancement of animal industry and comfort of animal and man.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is one of the foundation faculties of the then Universiti Pertanian Malaysia and currently known as Universiti Putra Malaysia. It is sited within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), a stone's throw away from the Malaysian administrative capital of Putra Jaya. The Faculty aspires to be amongst the top veterinary schools in the Asia Pacific region. It has already made an impact by being the first veterinary school in the world to obtain the prestigious ISO 9001 certification in July 2000. All its activities are now governed by ISO 9001 procedures, covering undergraduate and graduate studies, research, continuing education, administration and professional services that include the veterinary hospital. The procedures are carefully designed to enable a progressive advancement of teaching, research and administration of the Faculty, and are reviewed annually.

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme is designed to produce graduates in veterinary science (animal production and diseases). The programme requires clinical and technical skills to diagnose, treat, prevent and investigate animal diseases. The programme has two major aspects; the animal science, which equips the graduates with the necessary knowledge in various livestock industries and the veterinary medicine, which covers animal diseases and disease control.

Graduates become veterinarians and members of a legally defined and protected profession. They occupy posts in the various government agencies as well as the booming private companies involved in animal industry, or in private practices. Graduates are also qualified to be involved in teaching and research activities related to the biological sciences.
