World Veterinary Day in Gujarat, India

The State Government’s Department of Animal Husbandry organized a multi-activity celebration of World Veterinary Day 2010, on the international theme of “One World – One Health”.

Since Gujarat could never be privileged to get exemptions from the global effects of Climate Change, a technical seminar titled “Effects of Climate Change on Animal Resources” was also organized to mark the celebration of WVD-2010.

AMUL – a world famous Co-operative structure of Animal Husbandry entrepreneurship evolved in Gujarat 60 years back & keeping the tradition alive, celebration of WVD-2010 was also organized jointly with a huge public participation. Amreli District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (AMAR dairy) took the lead in arranging a State Level Function on World Veterinary Day – 2010; where in Department of Animal Husbandry and Gujarat Veterinary Association gave the technical inputs and Gujarat Livestock Development Board, Gujarat Veterinary Council as well as Gujarat Gau-Seva Ayog contributed the financial support. Local animal welfare agencies contributed keenly in various capacities.

“One World-One Health” theme of this year’s WVD celebrations was honoured by inviting office bearers of Indian Medical Association to all the functions and huge public participation was achieved through a rally in Amreli town. A press conference was organized a week ahead of the actual function and all forms of Media kept the message of WVD-2010 celebration in circulation for all seven days in a raw.

Gujarat State’s Hon.Minister for Animal Husbandry–Mr Dileep Sanghani, Hon. Finance Minister - Mr Vajubhai Vala, State’s Animal Husbandry Secretary-Mr Rajeev Kumar Gupta and State’s Director of Animal Husbandry Department-Dr A J KachhiaPatel participated with enthusiasm in the WVD celebrations. More than 400 veterinarians from across the Gujarat State participated in the two-day celebration.
