The veterinarian is the professional who does the bailout and clinical monitoring of animals, works with public health, develops health work, works in the feed industry and medicine and research to improve herd genetics. Nowadays, not only must be committed to the development of their profession but also to human life and the environment.

The profession offers many lines of work and the market is expanding. The opportunities for the veterinarian in large urban centers are concentrated in clinics and hospitals for small animals and other activities such as hygiene and disinfection of food industry, pharmaceuticals and veterinary technology and inspection of products of animal origin. In rural areas, the activity is associated with veterinary public health and production, private clinics and technology centers and rural administration. The professional can also work with ecology, with research and technical expertise in animal competition.

Meets the three main pillars of the profession: Medical and Surgical, Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production and Agribusiness.

The course of Veterinary Medicine has an infrastructure model, with well-equipped labs and a veterinary hospital, which consists of three units: Unit for Companion Animal Hospital, located in Sao Jose dos Pinhais Campus; Hospital Unit for Animal Farm located at the Experimental Farm Blue Magpie in the town of Fazenda Rio Grande, and Horses, Hospital, located in Curitiba, Rules Cel. Dulcídio. Also has a core service for pets and large (PróAção) and Screening Center of Wild Animals (CETAS) located in the municipality of South Tijucas
