The course of Veterinary Medicine UNIVIÇOSA aims at the formation of Veterinarians able to focus on prevention, control and treatment of diseases of domestic animals, livestock and wild, but the quality and safety of animal products consumed by humans through the sanitary control of livestock and monitoring the achievement of products of animal origin.

The course lasts for 5 years, working in the morning and afternoon. The vestibular are annual, where fifty students are selected per shift. In the first two years are studied subjects of general education, major foundations for the formation of the veterinarian and the three subsequent years are taught vocational subjects in the areas of medical and surgical for small and large animals, diagnostic imaging, reproduction and biotechnology, animal nutrition, sanitation, public health, zoonoses and inspection of products of animal origin. Since the first time the students have practical lessons, in order to pave the knowledge acquired in lectures.

Teachers Travel Veterinary Medicine UNIVIÇOSA are mostly doctors, teachers and experts in specific areas of the course, following the development of students in activities inside and outside the classroom. A friendship developed between teachers and students to learning faster and more enjoyable.

The UNIVIÇOSA has modern infrastructure, modern laboratories, equipped only for the practical lessons of the course.

The Department of Veterinary students take classes in clinical practice and surgery of small and large animals, diagnostic imaging and clinical laboratory. Are also carried out visits to properties conveniadas the region, where they are provided medical and surgical care. Much of the practical classes are held at TLC Farm, a unit of UNIVIÇOSA, where students and teachers held classes Agrostologia and animal nutrition, breeding, and clinical surgery of cattle and horses and especially breeding and biotechnology. In Farm are also offered internships and curriculum for the students of Veterinary Medicine UNIVIÇOSA.

In addition to the classroom and the students of veterinary medicine are encouraged by the institution to attend lectures offered free each month courses and short courses organized by the coordination and Academic Conference ever held in the second half of each year. Through these activities, the students have contact with several areas of veterinary medicine, know the job market and become increasingly encouraged with the progress.

The academic course of Veterinary Medicine UNIVIÇOSA have excellent opportunities for internships and curriculum, due to agreements signed with the UFV, Viçosa City Hall and other municipalities in the region, veterinary clinics, businesses, farms and barns. The internships are offered from the second period of the course.

The professional degree in Veterinary Medicine has a broad area, such as:
* internal medicine and surgery of small animals in veterinary clinics and hospitals;
* internal medicine and surgery of large animals, in agricultural cooperatives or farms
* Reproduction of small and large animals, where work on farms and research centers with programs of artificial insemination, embryo transfer and breeding
* technology and inspection of animal products, and dairy products in stores and Inspection Service, Federal, State and Municipal
* production of animals, involving nutrition, management and improvement of producing species (cattle, pigs, poultry, sheep and goats)
* Preventive Veterinary Medicine, where he is working on programs to control and fight against the major infectious diseases that affect animals. The work is performed in laboratories for vaccine production and diagnosis of infectious diseases, organ health protection and on farms.
