The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine provides services to the region since 1971, when it was created. In 1972 he was made its first entrance exam. In January 1973, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, previously headquartered in Tupaciguara, was incorporated into the University of Uberlândia. In 1974, the University Council approved its transfer to Uberlândia. The Federal Council of Education in 1977 recognized the Course of Veterinary Medicine, was federalized in 1978, with the creation of the Federal University of Uberlandia. In April 1999, the Ministry of Education approved the new status of the Federal University of Uberlandia, which established the creation of academic units, and since then has established the School of Veterinary Medicine - FAMEV. Currently, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has its staff comprised 47 teachers, 42 troops and 5 replacements and 17 servers technical administrative work in their labs and in the administrative sector.
The college has enrollment of 1868 students in 56 disciplines of vocational graduation cycle, with a total workload of 3,900 hours of instruction per semester. In addition to the regular curricular activities, the students have the opportunity to develop monitoring work, internships in laboratories, the Veterinary Hospital, the Experimental Farms and public and private institutions. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is aware of its geopolitical role in the Triangulo Mineiro region, Alto Paranaíba and neighboring states. Thus, seeks to provide students with conditions that are acquired knowledge concerning the reality and practical needs of the rural areas where it operates. Its main objective is to form a professional able to participate in scientific projects and technical activities of production and extension and has eclectic vision and ability to think critically and constructively.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has 2 farms / laboratories on a dairy, a dairy herd with a daily average of 25 liters of milk per cow, feed mill, pork, fish, goat, eqüinocultura, sheep and poultry farms.
These structures are managed by the Foundation for Agricultural Development - FUNDAP and are of fundamental importance for the formation of a qualified professional for the job market. However, the farms / laboratories are staying with their infrastructure operation threatened by lack of resources, which could jeopardize the quality of education.
The program of Graduate Veterinary Science - Masters in Clinical Surgery, was established in 1999. We aim at increasing the capacity of human resources through scientific training and broad cultural, in order to contribute to the advancement of Veterinary Science. It also seeks the development of research and preparation for teaching. The course has four lines of research: Comparative Anatomy, Reconstructive and Reconstructive Surgery, Diagnostic Methods in Epidemiology and Immunology. The program includes 20 regular students and 3 special organized into two classes.
There is also, since 1997, the course Postgraduate Sensu Lato in avian sciences. This course includes the participation of companies in the poultry industry, providing the link between science and its practical application and improvement of standards of productivity and quality. It is an important way for the Triangulo Mineiro region, which stands in the development of poultry industry in the country through education of new technologies applied to poultry. Provides training and advanced training of qualified professionals.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has a regular six-monthly with a circulation of 1,000 copies and publication in Portuguese and English, on topics of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry and Related Sciences. Already been published in 153 articles since the year 1995.
In addition to projects developed in the Post-Graduate Veterinary Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has agreements Scientific Initiation and Improvement with the CNPq / FAPEMIG / UFU. Extension activities lead students to become familiar with the steps associated with agricultural production. Are aimed at technology transfer and diffusion of innovations to farmers and the rural population. Are executed extension projects in municipalities in the Triangulo Mineiro, High Paranaíba and south of the State of Goiás in Uberlândia, graduate students perform under the guidance of teachers, medical care in city neighborhoods, directing the surgical procedures for Veterinary Hospital. Remember that all services rendered to the community and other activities are currently suspended due to strike that affects the entire University of Uberlândia.
