The course aims to train professionals who are committed to the social dimension of veterinary science, with technical skills and scientific and professional knowledge to enable it to face current problems of agriculture, capable of generating and disseminating new knowledge to innovate the work of the veterinarian in their modalities and motivated to seek continuous improvement, acknowledging his responsibility for animal health, human health and the preservation of the ecosystem.

The Veterinary Medicine has expanded in the fields of their professional and scientific work to become a major issue in the order medical - health and social support for the promotion of health has been considered as a new paradigm of public health, through the have a relevant role in preventing many diseases and, therefore, the search for improved quality of life of the population. With a field of work rather broad, the professional practice involves health care and welfare of animals, where the emergency care and clinical follow-up are considerable elements. But it noted that the market opportunities are given in several areas of the profession such as feed and industrial products; search for genetic improvement of animals, care at public health monitoring and animal control, development of sanitation works, among others. The Veterinary Medicine course lasts a minimum of 10 semesters (5 years) and a maximum of 18 semesters (9 years).
