Brazil is one of the largest agricultural economies in the world. The size of the territory turns the country into one of the nations that most need attention with the breeding. That is why the work of veterinarians becomes crucial. Despite the name, professional degree in veterinary medicine is more than a doctor of animals. The activity of this specialist is always present in everyday human, especially when it comes to public health.

Most of the students for graduation because they like small animals. Or because he has relatives landowners or livestock, for example. However, it is necessary to bear in mind that the course goes beyond the veterinary clinic. It is important to have affinity for raw materials such as Mathematics, Economics and anatomy and be with an open mind to the possibilities of work.

In Brasilia and in other capitals, the market for pet shops is saturated. However, the degree prepares students to work in several areas. The main ones are the public health, veterinary inspection and food technology, the animal husbandry and animal breeding and protecting the environment, which involves working with wild animals, and planning programs for the public sector.

Graduation requires dedication to studies. In earlier periods, the students undergo basic courses such as Microbiology and Clinical Pathology. From the fourth semester, they begin to put into practice what they learn during the course. It is when they act in the Veterinary Hospital and the Clean Water Farm. Both units allow contact with large animals and pets. After completing this course, all students must do a compulsory internship of at least one semester. The work done during this phase will be the subject of the final graduation.

In addition to the Veterinary Hospital and the Clean Water Farm, students can put their hands dirty in one of ten projects for extension of continuous action, the School of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine maintains. Among them, the Guide Dog, which provides veterinary care to dogs trained to accompany visually impaired. Another initiative is the project Carroceiros.
