In October 1995 the course of Veterinary Medicine UESC was created, linked to the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (DCAA), which also comprises the courses of Agronomy and Geography. The first entrance was held in 1997.

Initially, the course was at the ground floor of the Jorge Amado, which included also the DCAA and the College of Veterinary Medicine. In early 2001 the course was great progress, with the inauguration of the Department of Pathology Animal Clinic and Kennel with Bays and insulation, and Operating Room of Small Animals. This initial structure were the basis of autopsy practice, semiology, clinical medicine and surgery, obtaining a significant demand for service. The construction of the Veterinary Hospital, highest aspiration of the faculty and students, was started in February 2002 and today has the halls Laboratories, Surgical Center, Clinic of Large Animal and Small Animal Clinic. Are still designed to be built Halls Sector Administrative and Animal Reproduction.

The course had its first graduation in January 2002, with an "A big test in the MEC. In 2003 the Course of Veterinary Medicine UESC was officially recognized, and rewarded all the efforts so far.

In 2007 the Course of Veterinary Medicine completed ten years of existence, thus consolidating its importance in the region.

It aims to train professionals authorized to practice veterinary medicine in the areas of clinical surgery and small and large animal reproduction, animal production, food inspection, zoonosis control, research and extension and assistance to all establishments that produce and or marketing, animal products or for use in animals, and any kind of establishment where animals are

Veterinarians operate in the clinical practice of animals (small and large) domestic and wild, in health protection, inspection of animal products, the technical responsibility of industries and / or homes that hold products used by animals (food and / or drugs); in control of zoonoses, assistance and technical guidance to farms, in teaching, research.
