The course of Veterinary Medicine UFAL - pole Viçosa - AL, is designed an innovative proposal for internalization of the Brazilian university, taking their attention to local realities. The course aims at training of veterinarians general, humanistic, scientific and reflective, able to act in favor of regional development as a whole. Search prepare students to expand their knowledge through research, extension and dissemination of his teachings.
The course of Veterinary Medicine is being offered from the perspective of contributing to the diversification of livestock farming, people living in the countryside, stimulate advance in livestock Alagoas.
The course of Veterinary Medicine is based on the following guidelines:
1. act and think scientifically about the action and return to action after considering the reflection;
2. connection between teaching, research and extension education by ensuring critical, reflective and creative, promoting dissemination of knowledge produced;
3. interdisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity, integration, contextualization of learning actually work as a way to nurture citizenship and full participation in society;
4. understanding, preservation, promotion and dissemination of national and regional cultures,
international and historical, as a means to establish the pluralism and diversity cultural.
The formation of the Veterinarian aims to provide the professional knowledge to develop actions and results focused on the area of Agricultural Sciences and Health in relation to livestock production, Production and Food Safety, Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health and Environmental Protection.
The formation of the Veterinarian aims to provide the professional knowledge required for professional practice the following powers and general skills:
• Attention to health: health professionals, within their work environment should be able to develop actions of prevention, promotion, protection and rehabilitation, both individually and collectively. Each professional
must ensure that their practice is conducted in an integrated and continuous the other instances of the health system, being able to think critically, analyze the problems of society and to seek solutions to them. The professionals should perform its services with the highest standards of quality and the principles of ethics / bioethics, taking into account that the
responsibility for health care does not end with the technical act, but, the resolution of the problem of health, both individually and collectively.
• Decision-making: the work of health professionals should be based on the ability to make decisions regarding the appropriate use, effectiveness
and cost-effectiveness of the workforce, medicines, equipment, procedures and practices. To this end, they should have competencies and skills to evaluate, organize and decide the pipes more appropriate, based on scientific evidence.
• Communication: the health professionals must be available and should maintain confidentiality of information entrusted to them, in interaction with other
health professionals and the general public. The communication involves communication verbal, non verbal and writing skills and reading, the domain of at least one foreign language and communication technologies and information.
• Leadership in multiprofessional teamwork, health professionals should be able to assume positions of leadership, always with a view to well-being of the community. Leadership involves commitment, responsibility, empathy, ability to decision making, communication and management effectively and efficiently.
• Administration and Management: professionals should be able to take initiatives, to the management and administration of both the labor force, the physical and material resources and information, just as they should be able to be entrepreneurs, managers, employers or leaders on the team.
• Education permanente: professionals should be able to learn continuously, both in training and in practice. Thus the health professionals must learn to learn and take responsibility and commitment to their education and training / training of future generations
professionals, providing conditions so that there is mutual benefit between future professionals and professional services, including encouraging and
developing mobility academic / professional training and cooperation through national and international networks.
