Ulg's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is the only university faculty in the French-speaking Community of Belgium to offer a complete course of study to the doctoral level in veterinary medicine. The Faculty has all the professorial staff and all the infrastructures necessary (including a pedagogical farm, a specialized library and a University Veterinary Hospital) to ensure the excellence of its program.

The objective of the program is to provide students with the knowledge, the know-how and the interpersonal skills necessary for success in the field of animal health and well-being, animal production, and veterinary public health. The program is spread over six academic years (first and second cycle) and leads to the degree of general veterinarian. Students may also go on to specialize in various disciplines which are offered as complementary training programs of between one and five years in length, depending on the program.

The Faculty is also actively involved in scientific research and offers a doctoral program leading to a D.Sc. degree in veterinary sciences (third cycle degree).
