Dr Jean Hokayem is the President of the veterinarian Order in Lebanon and Vice President of the Euro Arab Veterinary Association.
Dr Hokayem was a Baccalaureate 1973 –1974; has a PHD in Veterinary medicine from the University of Brno, Czech Republic; has a specialization in the study of Microbiology; and a degree of study in Serologic Identification from the Pirbright Research Center in the United Kingdom of Britain. His language capabilities cover Arabic, French, English and Czech.
Dr Hokayem has been a Researcher in Microbiological diseases since 1981 National Council for Scientific Researches; responsible in laboratory works in the bacteriological part of scientific researches 1981-1996; an instructor in the American University of Beirut in Bacteriology and Virology 1981- 1985; National Expert in the serology (FAO) 1988; Scientific tour to specify identification of viral diseases (London -Pirbright) in 1988; responsible for the project of cleaning the beach and controlling the pollution in Lebanon (Ministry of Environment) 1992 – 1994; collaborator in the project of controlling and Watching food from germs (laboratory of researches – Fanar) 1993-1996. He undertook a scientific tour for the Melitensis Disease (Teramo- Italy) 1995; a scientific tour on the cows’ pest disease (Beirut – Laboratory of Scientific researches – Fanar) 1995; Member in the Assembly that studies the exported veterinarian medicines and vaccines (Ministry of Agriculture) 1996 – 2002; scientific tour on developing vaccines in Arabic Countries (Damascus-Syria) 1997; and Member of the Jury for the graduated students in the university of Kaslik.
Dr Hokayem has experience in the identification of bacteriological germs; serological identification of principal animal diseases; serological identification for the ELISA technique; research in virological isolation and vaccines preparation for small ruminants; physical and micro biological Control of food animal products and investigation of chemical contamination of food animal products distributed to stores.
Dr Hokayem has attended many conferences and has been President of the Assembly of Watching food in Lebanon ( District of Beirut and Mount Lebanon) 1998; in the Euro- Arab Association for Veterinarian doctors since 1997; Scientific studies and Projects on small ruminants (National Center of Researches) 1997 –2000; Vice President of the veterinarian Order in Lebanon 1998 –2000; Scientific Tour of Epidemiology Surveillance in Beirut (OIE) 2000; President of the veterinarian Order Lebanon September 2000-2003; participated in a conference in the American University of Beirut (Health Consuming) 2002 “Mondialisation and the role of the Veterinary doctor in commercial exchange”; Vice President of the Euro- Arab Association of Veterinary doctors since 27 April 2002- Tunisia; Common Diseases Between Human Beings and animals zoonosis Beirut 18 June 2002; participated in the Fifth Conference of the Euro Arabian Association of Veterinary doctors – Sanaa ( 21-25 June 2002); participated in the congress of veterinarian laws and the sanitary control, Beirut 20/9/2002; assistant in the 10th Mediterranean Federal Conference of Health and Production of ruminants Tunisia from 22 to 24 September 2002; Member in the World Association of Veterinarian Doctors Tunisia 28/9/2002; attended to IVth Congress of world union of professions in Paris on the 14 and 15th November 2002, representing Lebanon and Middle East; participated in the tenth conference from 17 to 19 September 2002 in Baghdad; General Secretary for the Association Arab Veterinary; participated in the VI th conference of the Euro – Arab Association from 18 to 23 May 2003 in Paris; Treasurer of Veterinary Arab – African Order for animal health and veterinary products manufactories, Paris 23/5/2003; Assistant general secretary of the affairs General Federation of Arab Veterinarians; Re-elected President of the veterinarian Order Lebanon 2003 – 2005; member in the Association Arab – American / Huston – Texas 7 March 2004; participated in the Xth scientific and professional conference – Amman 24-26 April 2004; participated in the Europe – Federal congress of the veterinary in Prague 20-24 may 2004; participated in Security alimentation of Mediterranean in Palermo Sicilian – Italy 20-23 November 2004; participant in the World Wide lecture of the OIE dealing the nutritional Health That took place in the Monroe Hotel in Beirut on the 12th of April 2005; Organizer and participant in the World Wide conference of the Arabic Organization for the agricultural Development dealing with the Food and Mouth Diseases in the ministry of agriculture in Beirut (25-26 April 2005) Lebanon; participated in the regional scientific conference dealing the modern equipments to fight the Food and Mouth diseases that took place in Maroc – Rabat (3-12 of may 2005; participation of the 73rd Session of general Committee International of the World Organization Animal Health OIE May 22-27 2005; participation to the 28th international congress to the world veterinary organization in Minneapolis – USA 16-20 July 2005; he was elected in 19 July 2005 member of the board of the international veterinary organization representing the committee of euro Arab veterinarian and that for 3 years, till 2008; participant and representative of 11th congress of world veterinary association in Amman – Jordan 27-29/4/2006; participant in 10th congress of Euro Arab Veterinary Association in Porto – Portugal 1-3/6/2006; participated the 10th Council Meeting in Athens on 13 March 2008; participated the 29th world Veterinary Congress in Vancouver – Canada 27-31/7/2008 where he was elected WVA Councilor of representatives Associate Member (Basic Veterinary Science).
