World Veterinary Day was celebrated by the College of Veterinary Sciences, CCS Haryana Agricultural University on 25th April, 2009.

On this occasion several events/activities were organized. The day began with the "VETS MARCH" in the morning. The students carrying placards depicting slogans related to animal welfare marched through University Campus. The College faculty along with the Dean of the College Dr. S.K. Nagpal participated in the march.

Later, a team of senior faculty members of the college comprising of Prof. Gaya Prasad and Professor S.R. Garg went to different schools in the city to highlight the importance of World Veterinary Day and to create awareness among the school children regarding role of Veterinarian in Society and the carrier opportunities in Veterinary profession.

An Essay Writing Competition and a Poster Making Competition were also organized on the eve of World Veterinary Day. Topic of essay competition was 'Veterinarian and Food security' and that of poster compettition was 'Veterianrian and future of modern India'.

The main function of the World Veterinary Day celebrations was held in the afternoon when a seminar was organized. Welcoming the chief guests and the audience, Dr. Suresh Chander, Director, Teaching Veterinary Clinical Service Complex and Co-ordinator, World Veterinary Day celebrations highlighted the significance of World Veterinary Day celebrations. Dr. N.K. Rakha, Professor & Head, Department of Vety. Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine delivered a talk on the theme of WVD-2009 and emphasized the need for ‘One World – One Health’ and the role played by the Veterinary Profession to achieve this goal. Dr. S.K. Nagpal, Dean of the College presented Neomec Shiksha awards launched by Intas Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., to two students of the college. Mr. Rahul Moza, Sr. Sales Manager of Intas Pharmaceuticals was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Nagpal exhorted the students to be the best veterinarians. He apprised the audience regarding revision of the course curriculum by the Veterinary Council of India for the degree programme keeping in view the current needs and challenges before the veterinary profession.

The winners of various competitions were awarded prizes by Dr. Rakesh Kashyap, Director, Human Resource Management. The entire celebrations of World Veterinary Day were sponsored by the Intas Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd.
