 <p>Co-sponsored by the society for veterinary medicine and literature.</p>
 <p>A two day symposium on veterinary medicine and the literary arts to examine the role of poetry\, fiction and essays in veterinary medicine and to explore how literature enriches relationships among veterinarians\, their clients and nonhuman animals. The event will bring together writers\, veterinarians\, veterinary students and scholars in diverse disciplines to explore common themes in veterinary medicine and literature.</p>
 <p>Confirmed featured speakers include the internationally known poets Mark Doty and Molly Peacock.</p>
 <p>Mark Doty's Fire to Fire\: New and Selected Poems won the National Book Award for Poetry in 2008 and his Dog Years was a 2007 New York Times best seller.</p>
 <p>Molly Peacock is general editor of The Best Canadian Poetry in English. Her most recent collection of poetry is The Second Blush.</p>
 <p>The symposium organisers welcome papers on any aspect of veterinary medicine and the literary arts\, including\:<br />
 - Themes within the healing professions<br />
 - The use of fiction\, essays and poetry in medicine and the healing professions<br />
 - Future directions for literature in veterinary medicine<br />
 - To enrich curricular and extracurricular veterinary medical education and practice.</p>
 <p>Call for Papers Proposal Deadline is February 1st\, 2010</p>
 <p>Preference will be given to papers and posters focusing on the subject themes\, and the interconnections between veterinary medicine and literature. Podium presentations should be 15 minutes in length. Several abstracts can be submitted by the same author\, but priority will be given to accommodate all participants.</p>

 <p><b>The WVA Council meeting will take place on Friday 21 May\, the President’s Assembly on Saturday 22 May.</b></p>

SUMMARY:Extra-ordinary Presidents’ Assembly

 Dear Presidents of WVA Members\, Associate Members\, Affiliated Members and Observer Members\,</p>
 <p>On behalf of WVA president\, Dr Tjeerd Jorna\, it is my pleasure to invite you to an extra-ordinary meeting of the WVA Presidents’ Assembly. This meeting will be held in the head office of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)\, 12 rue de Prony in Paris\, on Saturday 22 May 2010\, i.e. the day before the opening of the OIE General Session. The meeting will start at 10\:00 am and finish around 5\:00 pm.</p>
 <p>In this meeting the Executive Committee would like to up date you on the current developments and activities in WVA. The EXCOM will also inform you about its ideas for the future\, more in particular the WVA Strategy\, the organisation of the World Veterinary Congress and the internal organisation. The main goal of the meeting is to have an open discussion about these plans. </p>
 <p>Your views and ideas will be highly appreciated. Formal proposals for voting and adoption are planned for the regular Presidents’ Assembly\, which will be held in October 2011 in Cape Town(South Africa).</p>
 <p>In case you would be unable to attend the meeting\, we recommend you to appoint a substitute. In such event we strongly advise you to choose a substitute who is well informed and able to act on your behalf.</p>
 <p>Attached below you will also find the Agenda for the meeting as well as a registration form and a substitute form.</p>
