The International Symposium on Neglected Influenza Viruses will bring together international scientists whose work focuses on mammalian influenza viruses from non-human/non-avian sources. This highly scientific conference will examine a considerable body of swine and equine influenza data and also consider what roles\, if any\, canine influenza and marine mammal influenza might play in new epidemics and epizootics. Scientists in this specialized field will explore what is known about these viruses through virologic studies\, surveillance data\, epidemiology\, prevention\, control\, ecology\, and policy. This is a unique opportunity\, as past international meetings have not taken such an interdisciplinary view of this area of study. With the emergence of the novel A(H1N1) influenza strain causing the current pandemic\, the reasons to hold this meeting are clearer than ever before.
