The rapid growth of aquaculture in the last few decades and the emergence of many aquatic animal diseases that disrupt production and trade have opened up a worldwide need and demand for practical and effective biosecurity programs. We have organized this important conference with the assistance of several leading experts, organizations, the OIE and FAO, and supporters and sponsors. We believe it will help set a solid framework for the development and implementation of biosecurity plans — from the farm to the nation — and will provide practical and effective tools for the aquaculture industry in the prevention, control and possibly eradication of many priority diseases. We hope the conference will result in an outline for industry-government cost-sharing programs.
